You're absolutely right, Graham. I'm not entirely clear on what you are asking though, as the question posed is rather broad. Please ask clarification questions if I answer a different facet then what you had in mind.
I realize this is a controversial issue and if others have differing opinions please feel free to post them.
Single women, in my opinion, should be training to become housewives and mothers. Regardless of if one marries or not those are still good skills to have. I do think it is beneficial to be out in the workplace, there are good skills found there as well that cannot be developed to the same degree as if one just stayed home. Gaining a higher education is also beneficial and should not be looked down upon. However, all of this is not to say that if one does not do these things they are wrong. For some single women it might be more beneficial to stay home and not find work in the workplace, or a higher education may not be the best road to take. There are entrepreneur women just as there are men. Both are wonderful to have in society. Some start businesses out of their home, this also has benefits.
Unfortunately, I can't give a one-size-fits-all answer. Really it is a case by case basis. I know that sounds like a cop-out answer, but it isn't. I do strongly advocate for continuing education, whether that is through online classes, physically attending a university, or other methods of education that are now available. At the same time education should not be over-emphasized to the point that there is no time to learn general life-skills as well as those skills that will prepare the woman for a possible future role as wife and mother.
yeah. more and more i tend to think its a matter of personal convictions. there's a gray area here where i think girls should consult the scriptures and other godly women and then decide for themselves what they think God wants them to do. i'd rather err on the side of liberty than legalism because legalism leads one to judge. as long as a girl is following God with all her heart, i honestly dont care if she runs for president. i wouldnt want to marry a girl like that, but that doesnt mean i dont respect her.
very, very true!!
