Last time I presented a scientific case for the humanity and the life of the unborn. Today, I'm going to show four non-essential differences between the unborn and us. There is an acronym for these non-essential differences: SLED.
- Size.
- Level of Development.
- Environment.
"Well, the unborn is dependent upon it's mother for nutrition." Well, so are minors dependent on their parents or guardians, and the elderly often dependent on their children. Or diabetics dependent on insulin. Dependency on someone or something does not make one less human or un-human.
The unborn are human. As humans their life needs to be respected. Abortion is not the way to go about "getting rid of your problem." There are many couples in the world who want to have children but are unable to. Adoption is a great way to give your child life, and save yourself a lot of heartache, while fulfilling the dream of someone else. You have a choice. Choose life.

ReplyDeleteIn all of your examples, the "dependent" in question will not die if a single woman does not want him in her life. A fetus is fully dependent on a single woman to survive, which usually involves her changing her lifestyle, halting her career (or giving it up), and finding funds in excess of $10,000 per year to care for the child. Minors whose parents don't want them--and this happens!--can be given away to new parents. Elderly have numerous programs and support systems in place for them. Diabetics? How do they really compare to developing babies?
"The unborn are human. As humans their life needs to be respected."
A woman who carries to term a child that she would just as soon throw in a trash bin should not be forced to destroy her body and career as punishment from the religious right for having sex without the intention of having a child.
"There are many couples in the world who want to have children but are unable to."
And MOST OF THESE PEOPLE WOULD RATHER TURN TO FERTILITY AID THAN ADOPT.
"Adoption is a great way to give your child life, and save yourself a lot of heartache, while fulfilling the dream of someone else."
If you have a white baby, your child will find a great home, since people are willing to pay the $4,000 - $10,000 it costs to adopt that infant. There are over 20,000 infants placed for adoption every year, and there are NOT that many families looking to adopt an infant who does not at least look like he or she could be their offspring. Now, the total number of infants adopted each year is almost 135,000--60% from homes so abusive the parents lost custodial rights, 25% from overseas, and only 15% from healthy moms who chose adoption over abortion.
Say what you mean: your child that you voluntarily put up for adoption is hard to come by, when there are 81,000 infants with a history of abuse, and only 20,000 that were given up "to fulfill the dream of someone else." There is NOTHING selfish about having an abortion when there are thousands of babies out there who have already been born, whose parents are sexually and physically abusing them, and who nobody wants to adopt because they are "damaged goods." Figure out what went wrong with your birth control, and ABORT. Save an infant from an abusive family and years in the foster care system.
I'm an atheist. A fetus is just a big ol' blob of cells that cannot survive outside of my body until well after the point where I would consider having an abortion. I have never had an abortion, and have always been on the pill and used condoms--until I met the man of my dreams, we got married, and seven years later decided to have a child. I am lucky to have had that choice, there is a minority of women who don't. You would have them carry a child to term, wrecking their hormones, their bodies, their careers, so YOU can sleep at night, having done "the Lord's work." It's NOT your choice. A woman's body is not an incubator for your followers, nor is abortion even remotely comparable to the Holocaust, you insensitive twat.
You attack one point of a four pronged philosophical argument. The four points are independent of each other, and, for arguement's sake, let's say the fourth point (that you took issue with) is invalid ... I still showed how common pro-choice arguments are invalid.
ReplyDeleteI would also point out that you say, "Minors whose parents don't want them -- and this happens! -- can be given away to new parents." This is called adoption, and it is precisely what you condemn me for suggesting as a valid alternative for abortion.
I also reference a previous post I made which scientifically shows that the unborn is, in fact, a human being.
Being an atheist, a theist, or a polytheist is irrelevant to whether or not the unborn is a human or not - science has shown that the unborn is living. As such, they deserve the same respect and rights as other human beings, and I will continue to speak in support of those who cannot yet speak for themselves.
